Spirituality and
Chaplaincy
Our Rabbi, Aaron
Selevan is available to all residents, family members and staff seeking
spiritual guidance, or just wishing to talk. Rabbi Seleven meets regularly with Community Centre staff to plan activities that
acknowledge beliefs and traditions.
While Shalom Village is primarily a Jewish organization, we offer
spiritual opportunities to residents of all faiths. As well as regular
Shabbat services, non-denominational Church services are conducted in
partnership with our local churches.
All
Jewish holidays are
observed, including Hanukkah, Purim, Passover, Yom Hashoa, as well as regular
pre-Shabbat discussions and songs. A Yiddish Circle has been implemented and meets monthly. Residents enjoy
being able to speak Yiddish together and have the opportunity to reminisce about
their families and early years.
Compassionate palliative
care is provided at the end of life. The care teams work together to enable
residents to pass their final days at Shalom.
Rabbi Seleven is always
available to families, offering support at these difficult times.
